A Train to Catch

One of my not-so-much-of-a-morning-person friends had to catch a train at 6am every Monday. The thought of the merciless train that will leave him behind, scared him enough to make sure he never missed it. That got me thinking - discipline - forced or not, he had it.

Train to catch - although I don't mean it literally, having a fixed schedule will force you to be a bit more punctual. My commute to work by train dictates the schedule for the day. I know some of you don't like the whole structure bit - but, hey, it works!

May be obvious to some of you, but it took me a while to realize that it applies not just for train, but for other facets of life - exercise and diet. Apart from providing you with good Lipid profile results, they have more benefits than most realize. 

I used to think I did not have enough time to exercise, but I've realized it's all about prioritizing what and when you do it. I know, it is hard to start, its been more so for me, and I am still getting used to the routine. Getting to bed early and being early to rise is a great start. Oh! and you get to skip all those late night shows with questionable entertainment value and recording those that do. Win-win situation all around.

Diet (Choose one of the following) - is a bad thing - it only applies to people who have a problem - only if my doctor asks of me - WRONG!

If you ask me, everybody needs to be on a diet. Watch what we eat, what we drink and how we burn it. And tea-time does not mean snack time. Moderation and portion-control - thats the key.

Eating out less and making the Farmer's market a ritual on Sunday mornings is helping us cook at home, and eat out less. For example, the butternut squash and onion galette I baked last week with roasted brussel sprouts on the side was as good a meal as any restaurant would provide us and more. Experimenting in the kitchen has shown me how much more food is enjoyable, and I have to believe that this is my first step towards a better diet.

Of course, having a like minded partner does not hurt either. This is definitely not universal, but definitely works for me.
